The Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center (IWC) recognized the achievements of 11 women from five different countries in Africa and South Asia who received certificates for their participation in the first cohort of Women Lead, a job readiness program. The celebration took place at the IWC on Preble Street just before the turn of the year.

The program, specifically designed for women looking to enter the U.S. workforce, focused on interviewing techniques, understanding employee rights, and learning about financial management.

“This is our first cohort, and we are very proud of these women,” said Shukria Wiar, Director of the Women Lead program. “They worked hard, made sacrifices, and put in efforts to complete this program. I hope they will build a promising future here.”
