One positive case at Reiche Community School in Portland has resulted in 15 close contacts required to quarantine. Due to the number of staff having to quarantine and the need to clean the building, Reiche will be closed for in-person learning on Friday, Jan. 15, and staff and students will transition to full remote instruction. The building is expected to reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 19, the day after the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Reiche students and families will receive communication from teachers regarding remote experiences and assignments. Meals will be available for students at Portland, Deering and Casco Bay high schools and at Talbot Community School from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

In conformance with privacy laws regarding health status, the Portland Public Schools does not disclose specific information about any individuals testing positive (such as their role, grade level they’re associated with, etc.) Close contacts have been notified and cleaning protocols have been put in place.

It is anticipated at this point that the Reiche building will reopen for in-person instruction on Tuesday, Jan. 19. That is the day after the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, when all district schools are closed.
