Civic leaders attended a high-level meeting at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, in December to discuss protection and assistance for refugees and stateless people who are living in cities. They noted the positive contributions refugees make to the cities where they settle: a measurable boost to local economies; expanded connections to trade and business opportunities abroad; and the different visions, ideas, and perspectives brought by a diverse population. Worldwide, 60% of the record 68.5 million forcibly displaced people live in cities and urban areas.
