PORTLAND, Maine — In a night to remember, the Portland Hearts of Pine shocked reigning USL League One champions Union Omaha with a 3-1 victory, thanks to a masterclass performance from Ollie Wright. The London-born winger scored the first hat-trick in club history, sending a packed and electrified Fitzpatrick Stadium into delirium.
The match, however, began under heavy pressure from the visitors. Omaha dominated early, piling on shots and creating the best chances. Their efforts paid off in the 37th minute when Dion Acoff coolly slotted home a pass from Charlie Ostrem, slicing through Portland’s defense. As the teams headed to the locker room at the half, the 5,703 fans — usually rowdy — were eerily silent.
“You could hear a pin drop,” said head coach Bobby Murphy.
But everything changed after the break. And it took just one man to flip the script: Ollie Wright.
In the 48th minute, after a clever feed from Nathan Messer, Wright danced past two defenders and lobbed the keeper with a delicate, angled shot: 1-1.
Fifteen minutes later, he struck again. This time, a perfectly timed through ball from Michel Poon-Angeron set him up. One touch, a clinical finish to the far post — and Portland had the lead.

Then came the masterpiece in the 80th minute. From the left wing, Wright breezed past his marker, held off a challenge, and curled a stunning shot from outside the box. The ball soared into the far corner once again. Fitzpatrick Stadium erupted.
Wright celebrated his hat trick by ripping off his jersey and cupping his ears, calling on the crowd to raise the noise. His teammates swarmed him, knowing they were witnessing history.
At that moment, even ESPN producers couldn’t look away.
Omaha pushed late, including a dangerous header from Ryen Jiba superbly saved by goalkeeper Hunter Morse, who stood tall when it mattered most.
Final score: Portland 3 – Omaha 1.
A legendary match. A night forever etched in club lore. And a name — Ollie Wright — now immortalized in the hearts of Portland fans.
