More than 300 people gathered in Congress Square Park on September 1 to enjoy West African dance and music performed by New Moon Ensemble at Portland’s September First Friday Art Walk. The event was sponsored by the The Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center.
Master village drummer Namory Keita from Sangbarala, Guinea, leads the ensemble along with dancer/choreographer Marita Kennedy-Castro. New Moon Ensemble members represent and embrace diverse ethnicities and races, and believe in the healing power of music and dance.
