On November 8, Ikirenga Cy’Intore performed a program of traditional Rwandan music and Imihamirizo dance at Mayo Street Arts, in Portland. Imihamirizo is a dance form based on the rhythms and dances of Rwanda’s capital city, Kigali. The stories told through dance and drumming are an important part of traditional Rwandan ceremonies, festivals, and social gatherings. Ikirenga Cy’Intore aims to educate and preserve traditional Rwandan culture for their fellow Rwandans, as well as for the general community. The group has received numerous awards and grants, including a 2019 Mayo Street Arts Mission Award.
