City of Portland launches new child care grant program

In order to increase the number of child care slots available to parents, the City of Portland has launched a new child care grant program.

Both new and existing child care businesses are eligible to apply for financial assistance.

New home-based child care businesses could receive up to $15,500 in grants to help them with startup costs.

Existing child care businesses –including home-based providers, centers that serve less than 50 children, and out of school providers (before and after school) –are eligible to apply for up to $11,000 in grants to help sustain and grow their businesses.

The application in English is available at:  Portland Growing Child Care Program at portlandmaine.gov/BusinessFinancing.

According to Kaela Gonzalez, City of Portland American Rescue Plan Program Coordinator, applications will be posted in additional languages in the near future.
