A new subvariant of omicron, known as BA.2, has experts in the U.S. concerned that another surge in cornonavirus infections may occur.
The new strain is already causing a surge in hospitalizations and deaths in about one dozen countries worldwide.
BA.2 is believed to be more transmissible than the original strain of omicron.
According to Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, a recent CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) study showed that unvaccinated persons have been hospitalized at a rate 23.0 times higher than boosted, vaccinated persons.
Vaccination and boosters are clearly the key to preventing infection.
