This month’s Community Happenings is brought to you by the team of Dhananji Rathnayake, Ernest Ndayisaba, Germain Mucyo, Madeline Mbong, and Mark Mattos (photographer).

On March 21, civic leaders gathered with area residents at the Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center (IWC) for a panel discussion focused on local community involvement, voting rights, and the avenues available for civic contribution. Portland City Councilors Pious Ali and Victoria Pelletier, Portland’s Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (JDEI) Director Umaru Balde, and Generational Noor founder Amran Osman formed the panel. The IWC, League of Women Voters of Maine, Community Organizing Alliance, and Maine Votes/Maine Voices Network collaborated on organizing the event.
