Governor Janet Mills has made it illegal to raise prices beyond fifteen percent on necessities such as  paper products, cleaning supplies,  hand sanitizer, personal hygiene products, medicine and medical supplies, food, and water. The base price will be calculated based on what those prices were immediately prior to the disruption caused by COVID-19.

Further, Governor Mills and Attorney General Frey also warned Mainers today that scammers may be looking to exploit the crisis. Do not give your personal or financial information to anyone who contacts you unexpectedly, and be sure to research offers of goods and services, as offers may be too good to be true.

Consumers who believe they have received an attempted scam or who have witnessed price gouging should contact the Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the Attorney General.
