The Bates College Africana Club held its annual Africana Fashion Show on March 15 with the goal of highlighting and celebrating the many different regions and cultural traditions of the continent. The first Africana Club Fashion Show took place in 2010 and proved so popular that it has become a much-anticipated event on campus ever since. This year, the walls of Gomes Chapel were decorated with flags from all the countries of Africa. There was singing, dancing, and poetry, as well as traditional clothing. The theme was “Kelele,” which is Swahili for “noise.
