This past weekend, our community suffered devastating and tragic losses of two very beloved community members— Nicole Mokeme and Truc Huynh.
Truc was a member of our Vietnamese community and his organization Trucking Across Maine has raised thousands for local organizations in Maine through their mission to pay it forward. He promoted Maine’s natural beauty while sharing stories of inclusion and diversity, along the way, that help break down stereotypes.
Nicole founded Rise and Shine Youth Retreat, a rejuvenation center for the enrichment and liberation of Black people in Maine and beyond. She was passionate about creating a diverse community of teenage girls who courageously celebrate themselves and compassionately support one another.
Maine has lost two great community builders and will miss their positivity.
